The Flight: Character Backstory
Legundo only ever knew the storm.
Born after the world had already been thrown into ruin, he never had seen the golden age the older generation spoke of so fondly.
There was only ever the fear, the clouds on the horizon, and uncertainty of another day.
Legundo is a young Mechanist's apprentice in the town of Thistle Hill. Orphaned by past wars and the rise of the Storms, he was taken in by Olsted - the town's resident alchemist as a servant, and upon showing some aptitude for science he became Olsted's apprentice.
While still not the best scientist or the best alchemist in the world, Legundo is smart, eager, and gifted with forging and smithing fine mechanical parts for things like clocks, watches, and other machines. He is also skilled with alchemy and potion making, despite a few setbacks and well... explosions.

One time, late at night, he learned that Olsted was working with some rebels, a private militia that attempts to both fight the Storms, as well as resist the Queen that has made a play on "Dragon Riders". They thought that this was the last attempt of the Queen after repeated failure after failure, and that trying to tame the untamable beasts of old was a fool's errand, and thus wanted to act on their own accord. Legundo saw Olsted give them supplies, including some of his alchemical creations, and snuck off to bed before he was spotted.
The next morning, Legundo confronted Olsted about if he believed in the dragons, or magic, not mentioning the conversation before. Olsted admitted he did not, and that he thought that the world will be fixed by iron and blood, not spells and wishes. Conflicted, Legundo agreed.

That evening, as Legundo was heading home from purchasing another day's supplies, he heard it.
A wingbeat and a roar in the clouds above.
He stared longingly above to the sky, thinking of what might be possible, and then there was an explosion behind him. His ears were bleeding as the bells were rung. People huddled to hide, but a few brave fighters for the town drew their swords and stood to fight. There were a few other explosions and fires, but after it all... those fighters were still standing.
The town cheered for the five brave fighters who stood against the Storm, who protected their town when no one else could or would. All Legundo could see was the faces of the people he had seen the night before, and telltale smell the chemicals of some of his own failed creations.
Legundo left that night, carrying nothing but the clothes on his back, to answer the Dragon's call.
