With Halo Infinite’s big reveal at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference some people are looking back at older Halo games and their current state.

Many when thinking about the current state of Halo games are looking at the MCC which was known for a long time as the broken Halo game because at launch many bugs made the game nearly unplayable with long wait times, glitchy games, terrible hit detection, and not being able to play multiplayer out right.

Fortunately during a winter stream 343 industries announced the MCC would be getting a 4k graphical update for the Xbox One X as well as a matchmaking and UI overhaul. All of this was planned to take place over the summer starting with flights which are small portions of the community would be selected and invited to play test build for certain things within the MCC.

There are currently 3 flights that have taken place and all the flights according to 343I has gone exceptionally well! The flights were to test specific things that would be included in the update such as:

Flight 1: Load times, time until in a game, UI, and overall game smoothness.

Flight 2: Larger player count, dedicated servers, hit detection, and more of the previous flight.

Flight 3: Includes the whole game, specific downloads, language, and more of the previous flights.

Currently we are in what 343i calls phase 1 of flight 3 the next phase will include all of the MCC insiders (people who signed up to help with testing) then shortly after that we enter phase 3 and during that phase MCC will obtain its first offical update and it will continue to update with further phases and patches.

With this update playlist that are currently in the game such as: Team Slayer, Big Team Battle, Infection, Swat, and more are getting reworks or being taken out completely (for the time being) and in the previous update posted on HaloWayPoint they announced the new playlist to be in the game upon the update which are:

Core Playlist:
  • Halo CE Team Doubles
  • Halo 2 Team Arena
  • Halo 2 Team Hardcore
  • Halo 2 Anniversary Team Arena
  • Halo 3 Team Arena
  • Halo 3 Team Hardcore
  • Halo 3 Team Doubles
Social Playlist:
  • Quickplay Slayer (Every Halo game)
  • Crossplay BTB (all but Halo 3)
  • Halo 3 Big Team Battle
  • Halo CE Team Arena
  • Action Sack / Infection
  • (Will be rotated in and out)
  • Free-for-All (Halo 3 to being with)
Rotated playlist (won’t be included upon update):
  • Team SWAT
  • Team Snipers
  • Team Doubles
  • Team Objective
  • MCC special events
  • Community built playlist

And more!

This is all coming this update and 343i plans to bring more in the future. Though all of this seems great many around the community are skeptical based of the games troubled past and some don’t believe it’s enough and that 343I should include games such as Halo: Reach, Firefight (for Halo 3: ODST), or a PC port. 343I has made a statement about those wishes by saying: “These are currently outside what we are trying to do for this update…” though they also did say the will continue to monitor community feedback and desires. Although for now all we can do is wait and hope this brings more people back to the MCC and it works as it was intended to upon release.
